As the summer evenings get longer and (hopefully) warmer, you might be thinking of activities you can do. A trip to Howth is just the ticket, with so much to do. These are our tops tips for a special evening in Howth.
The DART will take you straight from Dublin city centre right out to Howth village. The journey itself is less than 30 minutes, and a day return ticket will only cost about €6. Trains run right up to shortly before midnight back to the city, so you won’t be in any rush. For full train times check out Irish Rail.
When you arrive off the DART, head straight to the Bloody Stream for a pint. Don’t worry, it’s a pub! This warm and welcoming bar and restaurant has open fires for chilly nights, and an impressive beer garden for the warmer evenings.
After that, it’s time for a stroll down to the harbour to look at the boats. Vessels of all shapes, sizes and colours will be docked here overnight, with many heading off for the next haul of fresh fish in the early hours of the morning.
If you’re looking for the best and freshest fish and chips, head to Beshoff Bros. This legendary fish shop has been around since the early 1900s, and is a staple of Dublin life. Eat on the go as you stroll around Howth pier and say hello to the seals.
Once your appetite is satiated, it’s time to head to O’Connell’s for a nightcap. Our friendly and inviting pub is the perfect place for a delicious pint or two, or even a cocktail if you fancy it. Sit back and relax as you enjoy great live music and gaze out over Ireland’s Eye and Lambay Island in the distance.
Don’t forget to catch your train back to Dublin! We have no doubt you’ll be dying to come back to Howth again soon for another trip to O’Connell’s.
